My Current Evening Skincare Routine

I get asked a lot about my skincare – and it’s something I enjoy talking about. In fact only last week I was invited to lunch with someone to give them the lowdown on my skin routine and to give advice on what is worth the splurge and what isn’t.

This got me thinking about my current night routine and how much I’ve ventured from using some super expensive products to ones which are a lot more purse friendly but still pack the same punch.

Now to put it into perspective I would say my skin is combination and at times quite dry – I have been finding 4 hours of commuting a day plus train heaters = very parched skin no matter how much water I drink!

I genuinely love taking my make-up off – it is something that gives me great joy and I find it’s a great note to myself that work day is over and it’s time to wind down for the evening. I start with my eye-make-up. I like to wear quite heavy eye-make-up at times so I like to try and take the majority of it off before I do my cleansing. I have been using this micellar water by Bioderma (£10.80) I like the one with the blue top as it’s for dryer skin. I just take this on some cotton pads and gently swipe over my eye.

Now I’m ready for cleansing. Discovering double cleansing was really a game changer in my skin-care routine. I found after it not only left my skin cleaner it was glowing and I suffered from a lot less breakouts. At the moment I am loving this incredibly product collab between Pixi and skincare goddess Caroline Hirons (£24). I have done a whole review on this beauty (right here) but I use the balm side on my dry skin and massage it in before adding a bit of water and then rinsing. I pat my face dry and then follow up with the cream side to give my skin a good clean without drying it out.

Now my mug is clean – I go in with an oil or a serum. At the moment I am loving The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2% (£8) which has replaced my Sunday Riley Luna Oil (my bank manager is thanking me). I find this lovely to use and in the morning my skin looks bright and plump. This isn’t a step I do every single night, maybe 3 or 4 times a week.

Then to give my skin a much needed boost of moisture I cannot rave enough about the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Mask (£29) enough, It is a gel texture and it instantly sinks into the skin and is so refreshing. It also comes in a giant tub and a little goes a long way so this is going to last me for a long, long time!

Next up is a step which only comes out in the case of a giant spot has decided to rear it’s ugly head! The Mario Badescu drying lotion (£14) is really the only thing I rely on for all sorts of breakouts. It is a pink liquid which you pop on to any spot (even those tricky under the skin ones!) and in the morning they will be dried out and a lot less red and angry looking. Honestly this stuff is a miracle worker!

Then the final step is to slather my lips in a really nourishing lip balm. I wear a lot of liquid lipsticks which can leave my lips dryer than the Sahara – so when I go to bed I want something super nourishing. The First Aid Beauty Ultra Intensive Lip Balm (£15) is off the charts. I put this on before I go to bed and I can still feel it on my lips in the morning which is remarkable.

So that is my current night time skin care routine, I feel I’ve got a routine which suits my skin and I am seeing some great results

Until next time x
