The Best of Beauty 2017

Was it just me or did it seem like the releases in the beauty community last year go mental? It felt that every month there was an exciting new ‘must have’ launch and although I didn’t partake in all of the launches I did purchase A LOT of new beauty in 2017 so I thought I would give you a rundown of my favourites of the year!

Thought I would start with skincare as there was a few good discoveries this year – first up my love for the Clinique Take the Day of balm continued throughout 2017 – I tried others throughout the year they never stacked up and I went back to this every time.

For my second cleanse I jumped on the band wagon and have loved the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser – this leaves my face feeling clean but refreshed without being tight its gorgeous.

I also discovered the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate which I think has made a real difference to my skin – I wake up and it’s plumper, refreshed and soothed – it’s a pricy one but well worth it!

I am still on the hunt for my perfect moisturiser and used a few last year, none of which really blew me away – but on the skincare front I wanted to give a mention to the Clinique Pep Start Overnight Lip Mask – this is a must for winter lips – it is so rich you can still feel it in the morning on your lips – I will be repurchasing this for the rest of time!

Now for the good stuff…Make-Up… I am going to do this in order of how I would do my make-up!

Primers are something I had an on and off relationship with primers – but my favourite is actually a recent edition which is the Smashbox Primeriser – a moisturiser and primer combined. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think this does much to the longevity of my make-up or my pores but it does make your make-up go on really smoothly and gives you a glowy base for your foundation.

My go to base discovery this year was the IT Cosmetics Your Skin but Better CC Cream – the name says it all! This leaves you flawless and dewy but without looking like you’re wearing tons of make-up. Don’t be fooled by the ‘CC’ in the title, it has pretty high coverage which is very buildable – I also has SPF 50++ meaning you don’t have to worry about applying separate sunscreen. The only down side is the colour selection is very small – so if you can get somewhere which sells it I would to swatch it on your skin.

Hands down my stand out concealer was the NARs Velvet matte complete concealer – I am not normally a pot concealer kind of person but this brought me around – it has great coverage without being drying – It is also just as good under the eyes as it is as covering breakouts which is rare!

For powder I only really used one once I got my hands on it and that was the Glossier Wowder – although this came in later in the year I hadn’t really worn powder on a daily basis but this leaves your skin looking flawless and velvety without loosing any glow.

I fell back in love with my Hoola bronzer by Benefit – it is a cult classic for a reason – I have even hit pan on this which I don’t do very often (trust me!). This is the perfect shade for bringing a warm glow and it blends out like a dream – a must for all make-up lovers.

Blush was a late entry but I have to give a mention to the Glossier cloud paints – I have puff and dusk and I mix them together to create a gorgeous naturally rosy flush which is gorgeous. These are pigmented but super easy to blend, perfect for cream blush novices! I also love the glowy finish they leave on your cheeks – they make you look healthy even when you’re feeling a bit grey and rubbish (thanks winter!).

I feel 2017 the love for highlighter went a bit crazy and I tried a few different ones but my pick is the Ofra Highlighter in Everglow which is the Ofra collaboration with YouTuber Nikkitutorials – this is gorgeous! I only use the bottom two shades but nothing will make you glow like this. Also a special mention to the Cover FX Enhancer Drops in Sunlight – I have used this as a liquid highlighter but it is also gorgeous mixed in with a semi-matte foundation to give you a lit from within glow.

For the eyes – there were a 3 palettes which stood out to me last year – first the mecca – The Jaclyn Hill palette. This is potentially my favourite beauty release of last year! There is every shade you could possibly need in this palette, the pigment is insanely good they are buttery and blendable – its gorgeous.

But I also want to give honourable shout out’s to The Naked Heat palette and the Huda Beauty Desert Island Dusk palette – two warm toned eyeshadow lovers dream I have reached for both consistently this year since their releases.

Eyeliner and mascara are actually the same as last year – the Kat Von D Tattoo liner In Trooper is hands down the best liquid liner out there and my favourite mascara is the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir – nothing I have found has come close.

For brows I just have one product which I think deserves a round of applause and that’s the Glossier Boy Brow – this gives your brows the most incredible feathery look and keeps them in place all day long – and with a bit of tint.

For lips – the discover for me this year was the Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink liquid lips – these have the best staying power of any liquid lip I’ve tried and they are affordable – I can’t rave about these enough. Also an honourable mention to the Colourpop Lippie Stix in Aquarius which has been my go to nude lip of the year too – oh and it smells like chocolate – delish!

So, there it is – my ultimate roundup of my favourite beauty bits from 2017 – I haven’t mentioned haircare or body care because if I’m honest nothing has stood out to me – next year I need to get better my routines and find some holy grail products – please leave any recommendations below!
